Beijing Bamboo Garden Hotel, A Chinese garden, unique and of classic beauty, stands in a quiet lane west of Drum Tower in the northern part of the capital city. That is the famous Bamboo Garden of Beijing. It was once the residence of Sheng Xuanhuai, the Minister of Post of the late Qing dynasty, and it was also said to be the garden of Li Lianying, a well-known feudal eunuch in Qing dynasty, The courtyard is densely wooded with bamboo groves while rockies and fountains are embellished with varieties of exotic flowers and rare plants. It is really a fascinating rendezvous. In Summer and Autumn, tables and chairs shaded by parasols are laid in pavilions and on terraces decorated with colorful lanterns, with green bamboo stems swaying gently beside them

The Hotel lies at the center of the ancient city, locates in Gulou street, is about 7 km from Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City, 11 km from West Railway Station and 25 km from Beijing Capital Airport.

The 52 standard rooms, 2 suites and 2 deluxe suites offer the highest levels of comfort. Thoughtfully designed and tastefully decorated, the accommodation provides a unique combination of the latest facilities and a homely ambience.

Each room is equipped with IDD telephone, in-room safe, individually controlled air-conditioning, color TV with local and satellite channels, radio, bedside control panel, refrigerator and mini-bar.

Said to be the former residence of the infamous Qing dynasty eunuch, Li Lianying, Bamboo Garden was the first major courtyard-style hotel in Beijing and is among the most beautiful. It's slightly more luxurious than the Lusong Yuan , but with less character. Rooms border three different-size courtyards; each filled with rock gardens, clusters of bamboo, and covered corridors. Standard rooms in two multi-story buildings at opposite ends of the complex are decorated with Ming-style furniture and traditional lamps that cast pleasant shadows on the high ceilings. A restaurant looks out over the rear courtyard.

Feedback:
We were delighted with this choice of hotel. It’s situated down a Hutong and takes you by surprise on approach. The road is a bit scruffy but don’t let that put you off. The hotel is a quiet oasis and a short walk from lots of restaurants and the old Bell and Drum towers.

The reception staff were friendly (in contrast to some reports that I’d read) and spoke good English. The hotel buildings are set around a tranquil courtyard. The bedrooms are a good size and decorated in Chinese style. There was a huge, comfortable bed. The room was very clean with a nice bathroom and a good shower. There was even a PC in the room for free internet access! The air conditioning worked although I would have liked it to be a little cooler.

The breakfast buffet was decent and had enough western food. We ate at the hotel one evening and found it to be very good value.
We found it easy to navigate our way to this hotel as it is on the edge of the Hutongs. I would definitely stay here again.
