courtyard Style and famous traditional hotels In Beijing
Unlike most modern high-rise establishments in
Beijing, this unusual hotel has traditional Chinese charm. Tucked away in a
quiet lane west of the ancient Drum Tower, Bamboo Garden is the result of extensive renovations of the former residence of a minister of the Qing dynasty (1646-1911). Densely wooded with bamboo
groves (hence its name) and decorated with rocks and fountains, this fascinating hotel resembles places like those described in classical Chinese novels.
back
from the visitors: The Bamboo garden was an oasis in the noise and heat of Beijing. It is on a quiet back-road among the 'hutongs'. The staff was very helpful. The Standard Suite(King-size Bed) room was very comfortable, large, no smoke odors. the restaurant has a wide selection. After walking in crowded Beijing it was
wonderful to return to the silent and beautiful chinese garden just outside the hotel room. we will certainly recommend this hotel to friends going to China.
-
Once a noble house of an
imperial minister, this hotel is situated near a narrow alley, which
provides glimpses of local life. The location of the Bamboo Garden Hotel
is also a great one for finding food because many restaurants and small
stores are close by as is a subway station-the Forbidden City is two
stops away. But this hotel isn’t just about the location. Once you step
inside its doors, you will feel like you have gone back in time with its
simple and elegant design style that reminds you of the days of the Ming
& Qing Dynasties. The staff is friendly, helpful and adept at foreign
languages, which most guests will appreciate. The Hotel also houses
several restaurants that specialize in dishes made famous by Chinese
aristocracy and a tea house where one can enjoy sipping tea in simple
and peaceful surroundings

We
booked a few nights in this hotel
after our trip on the Transmongolia
Express. Our travelagent tipped us
and she didn't lie: Bamboo Garden is
a beautiful hotel. It is in one of
the socalled hutongs and it is
extremely peacefull. And that is
what you need after spending a day
in busy Beijing. The staff is nice
and helpfull, the rooms are very
spacious, nicely decorated and fully
equiped. Closeby are good
restaurants and bars, shops, one of
Beijings lakes.... even within
walking distance.There is a computer
with internet (ofcourse, so the
government can keep an eye on
things) in your room, which is very
usefull.
We had a very pleasant stay!
-
We
stayed in a Deluxe Suite for the
first several nights of our
honeymoon. The room was very large
with a bedroom, sitting room and 1.5
bathrooms. The bathrooms were large,
modern and clean. The bed was very
comfortable with a wooden canopy and
red silk bed spread. There was a
mini bar, a huge flat screen
television and (huge bonus) a
computer with free internet access.
The staff were polite and even kept
the restaurant open for us when we
arrived 5 minutes before closing.
The food in the restaurant for
dinner and breakfast was average but
I would recommend going outside the
hotel for meals, especially down to
the Houhai Lake area. We rented
bikes from the hotel which was an
adventurous experience. The only
negative was the construction just
outside the hotel on the road. Since
the hotel is in the hutongs, the
road was very narrow and we had to
walk through the muddy construction
to the main road to get a taxi. This
hotel is a 15/20 minute walk north
of the Drum Tower/Houhai Lake area.
